How Does She Do It?…with Kim Harvey

We are excited to introduce you to Kim Harvey. She is a former contestant on American Idol and current correspondent of California Live. She also just launced a cosmetic line, Willa and Lucille. She is a married mama with soon-to-be two children. 

Are you an Urban or Suburban Mama, where do you live?

I’m kind of both! I grew up in a small town in Katy, TX but have spent most of my adulthood in Los Angeles after I was on American Idol Season 2. I used to live around Hollywood but now live in more of a family neighborhood called Studio City but still chaos compared to small town Texas.

Tell us about your children?

I have a sassy little four year old girl named Harlow Monroe and now I’m over 7 months pregnant expecting my second daughter in Feb! I’m going to officially be a girl mom. We are all about glitter and bows. 

Tell us about your typical weekday?

Organized chaos. So grateful for her preschool that she’s loves so her dad and I can both do what we love and work. My husband is a professional athlete so he trains every morning. He plays for Major League Soccer team LAFC, so we always attend the home games. I am the correspondent for NBCs “California Live” so I normally shoot live in the mornings and pick up my girl in the afternoon. So glad we all get to spend the evenings together as a family playing games or just vegging out watching Disney movies. 

Do you have help?

I have some family that lives close, we are lucky they will watch Harlow but for the most part we really try to just make it work! 

Who cooks dinner?

I’m a horrible cook so we do a lot of take out or order in supper. Even if I don’t cook, we will eat around the dinner table most nights and say our “gratefuls” which my daughter really loves. Makes us pause and remember what’s important.

How often do you buy something just for you?

I’m a bargain shopper so unless it’s Nordstrom Rack or on clearance I won’t buy it. If I do go on a sale spree and feel guilty, I will normally go consign some clothes to make room for the new stuff.

Do you exercise regularly and if so, what and how do you fit it in?

I got through workout spurts where I’m on a roll then I fall off the wagon and just eat a roll. Being pregnant I have been doing Prenatal Yoga once or twice a week which I truly enjoy because I am desperate being pregnant for a good stretch plus we do a little meditation to wrap up the class.

What clothing lines or stores do you like to buy for your children?

Harlow has four big girl nieces so she normally wears hand me downs or Target is my go to! Loving Zara Kids right now too. 

I’m totally obsessed with…

My new liquid matte lip line I just launched called Willa and Lucille (@willaandlucille) inspired by my grandma who I first saw rock a red lip. It goes on like a gloss, dry matte, and stays on all day without reapplying. It’s magic! Best gift to give your mom friends.

Three things in my purse right now are…

1. Guess Sunglasses
2. My daughters bubbles
3. My Willa and Lucille red lip shade Monroe

My favourite drugstore buy is…

Ellnette hairspray mini can because it’s easy to brush out but strong enough to hold and texturize. And Ponds Makeup Remover Wipes. My savior.

My guilty pleasure is…

Ice cream. Especially pregnant. Ben and Jerry’s Cherry Garcia is my jam.
