We are all in the middle of practicing physical distancing, and while this time is very challenging for everyone right now, it is especially difficult for small businesses. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and we need to support them however we can, so every week we will be featuring some of our local small businesses.
Baby Bear Clothing Co. is the third business we are featuring. Baby Bear Clothing Co. is a newer business, and owner MacKenzie wanted to share a little bit more about her business.
“Hi there, My name is MacKenzie! I am the owner of Baby Bear Clothing Co. I started out sewing outfits for my baby and after posting a few on social media, I suddenly had a ton of requests and orders! This little hobby of mine quickly turned into a small business! We are located in Stony Plain. As of right now we take orders mainly over social media, so check us out!”
What is Unique About Your Business/What Made You Choose This Type of Business?
Most of the pieces I make are Grow-With-Me style, meaning the cuffs roll down as your child grows for the longest wear. I also love to use bamboo fabric, which is great for baby wear and also one of the most eco-friendly fabrics out there!
What Is Your Favourite Small Business (aside from your own)?
It’s hard to pick just one, but here are a few of my favourites! Blake’s Bakery, Perks, Laurabella Custom Cakery, Breeze Therapeutic, The Bath Babes, and KARO Dental.
If You Had One Piece of Advice to Someone Just Starting Out, What Would It Be?
This is a hard one only because I am still just starting out! I guess the thing I remind myself the most is that I can do this. Starting a business can be stressful but the rewards are greater than the hard times if you set your mind to it! (Sounds cheesy, but it’s true!)
What Are Your Long-Term Business Goals?
I would love to eventually do local markets and create a larger online presence by setting up a website. Right now, I’m a one-woman show, so I’d need to recruit some help before I get to that point!
What Is Your Funniest/Weirdest/Most Memorable Experience With a Customer or Client?
Honestly, I’ve had such great experiences with so many customers! I think my favourite part of my business is the customers who become friends! I was lucky enough to be a part of someone’s birth announcement. After that, her and I talk all the time! I’m just so grateful for all of the amazing mamas I’ve gotten to know!
