This year Canada Day is playing out very differently than it has in the past. This time of year usually gets me excited because I have always looked forward to having a family- style Canada Day .… packed with kids activities, face painting, food truck food, local vendor tables, parades and of course fireworks. But this year, just about every municipality is doing an online version of Canada Day. Given the current landscape, I decided to research what a “virtual” Canada Day was actually going to look like locally. The majority of the events I found were virtual but I was pleasantly surprised to find a variety of events that were not virtual. Here is a compilation of Canada Day events happening throughout the Fraser Valley:
NATIONAL – AIRMILES CANADA HOUSE PARTY
Join in on the fun From 3pm-9pm est with a lineup of various artists including Dean Brody, Dear Rouge, Elijah Woods X Jamie Fine and several others. General Admission: FREE
NATIONAL – CANADA SIMULTANEOUS DRUMMING
Join in from anywhere in Canada – no experience necessary! This FREE event starts at 10am. Register by June 28 11;59pm
TOWNSHIP OF LANGLEY
The city is hosting virtual events from 10am-1130pm. Enjoy exciting activities all day long. There’ll be tons of on-demand entertainment, activities, fun resources, and contests at www.tol.ca/canadaday. Performance by three-time Juno award-winner Jim Byrnes. At 7pm an O Canada singalong is planned.

ABBOTSFORD
The city is hosting a city-wide sing-a-long at 7pm and a variety of artists are performing on the virtual stage throughout the day. There will be a live-streamed pet parade also.

HARRISON HOT SPRINGS
The city is hosting virtual events from 9am-10pm. Virtual entertainers planned throughout the day.

ALDERGROVE – PAINT THE TOWN RED PARADE
This years event will not include the annual Aldergrove fair, but the parade will go on… and on…and on…. They have extended the route to 4 miles so that everyone has can keep socially distant.

GLASS HOUSE ESTATE WINERY

This free family-friendly virtual event will feature a series of segments including, musical entertainment, virtual tours, indigenous and cultural acts, a “Family Hour” for kids and seniors, dance lessons, a rodeo tribute, and a virtual firework finale to end the night. Hosted by four-time Olympic gold medalist, Hayley Wickenheiser.
