Once a month we interview Moms in our “How Does She Do it?’ feature. If interested in being featured please reach out on Facebook or Instagram

We are very excited to introduce you to Hollie Fraser. She owns Punk Rock Pastries in Burnaby. It is not your typical bakery but they make cakes that are meant to shock and be the topic of conversation for a long time. They carry naughty cakes, cookies and cupcakes perfect for a bachelor or bachelorette party. This married mom of 1 has also recently been featured on the Food Network.

Are you an Urban or Suburban Mama, where do you live?

I guess I’m a Suburban Mama. We live in Port Coquitlam, moved from East Vancouver 4 years ago now and have loved living so close to nature.

Tell us about your children?

I have one son, Austin, he’s 3 years old and takes after his mum extremely cheeky.

Tell us about your typical weekday?

My typical weekday starts at 3am, I get up put coffee on and get dressed, grab lunch and drive to my bakery Punk Rock Pastries. I usually get there by 4am that’s when the fun starts, I make a range of different pastries and some amazing sculpted cakes. I run my own business so the day is filled with serving customers, making product or cakes and responding to emails about cake orders and what not. At 5pm we close and I drive to pick up Austin from the day care. Once we are home we have play time and make dinner. At this point im exhausted but still got a few hours to go yet. We make dinner and usually its a fight with Austin to have his dinner at the table so sometimes we have floor picnic dinners. Bedtime routine starts at 7:30pm with a bath, brushing teeth and then books. Once Austin is asleep which usually ends up with either me or my husband having to stay in the room until he’s asleep, I jump in the shower and relax mode sets in. Me and my husband usually have ½ to an hour together then its off to bed for me because I have to-do that again tomorrow.

Do you have help?

We don’t have any family members that live close to us. All my family lives in Australia so its just me and my husband.

Who cooks dinner?

It’s either we cook together or me and my husband take turns, because the bakery is open later some nights he usually cooks on those nights.

How often do you buy something just for you?

Haha this is funny I was thinking of this yesterday, I don’t do it often actually. When I need clothes is about the only time really, unless tattoos count lol.

Do you exercise regularly and if so, what and how do you fit it in?

Working in a bakery is like going to the gym daily. We lift 50LBS bags of flour and knead all our doughs by hand so I have my own personal gym right in my shop lol.

What clothing lines or stores do you like to buy for your children?

We actually go thrift shopping a lot and get hand me downs from friends, when we do go shopping for Austin usually ends up being band shirts and jeans or pants from Old Navy.

I’m totally obsessed with…

Coffee its my thing I need in the morning to get going, without it I’m a complete grouch.

Three things in my purse right now are…

  1. Loose change
  2. Air Canada luggage bag tag (from when we went on the Food Network
  3. Ulfhedar Tattoo balm

My favourite drugstore buy is…

Hair dye because keeping my hair red is a challenge.

My guilty pleasure is…

Cooking shows, I love watching them even though I bake all day long and I’m a trained pastry Chef I love seeing how other Chefs and home cooks do it. You never know what tricks you’ll pick up.

Thank you so much to Hollie Fraser for taking the time out of her day to let us know “How Does She Do It.”
