Small Business Sunday with Summer Adventures in a Box

Summer

We are all in the middle of practicing physical distancing, and while this time is very challenging for everyone right now, it is especially difficult for small businesses. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and we need to support them however we can, so every week we will be featuring some small businesses.

Summer

Summer Adventures in a Box is here for Small Business Sunday. Summer Adventures in a Box provides screen-free fun for children during summer vacation!

Naomi is a high-school student who saw a need and started Summer Adventures in a Box to help support families who wanted their children to have screen-free fun and educational activities. Each weekly themed box contains daily activities and challenges and a themed poem for 5 days, designed to be a week’s worth of fun in every box for only $40 in July!

Summer Adventures in a Box currently delivers fully assembled, open and go boxes locally within Spruce Grove and Stony Plain, and they have a weekly pick up option for those out of town and as of next week, will offer an e-version of the box and supply list so you can make your own Summer Adventure Box anywhere in the world!

What is Unique About Your Business or What Made You Choose This Type of Business?

I believe that childhood should be fun and full of exploration and discovery. I try to inspire children to be creative and develop a love of learning without using screens. I didn’t see any other comprehensive boxes on the market, ones that include a physical challenge, chalk challenges, learning activities, games, crafts, and a themed poem, so that is what I set out to create – themed boxes that appeal to all sorts of children, and hopefully teach them something new while they are having fun!

What is Your Favourite Small Business (aside from your own)?

My favourite small businesses are ones that see a niche market and cater to that!

If You Had One Piece of Advice to Someone Just Starting Out, What Would it Be?

I am learning everyday, but if I had one piece of advice to give someone starting out, it would probably be to find some support. I am so thankful that I am part of my local YETI (Young Entrepreneurial Training Initiative) program. I am part of a team and I am learning so very much.

What Are Your Long-Term Business Goals?

I hope that I can establish a number of themed boxes for Summer Adventures in a Box to appeal to children of all ages. So far, the Mysteries, Sleuths and Ciphers box has been released, but there are more to come! This is a unique summer where we find ourselves facing many disappointments as camps are being closed and vacations are being cancelled, so I felt that this would be a great opportunity for children; however, I hope that it is a product that one day becomes synonymous with childhood summers!

What is Your Funniest/Weirdest/Most Memorable Experience With a Customer or Client?

When we released our first Summer Adventures in a Box, I expected parents or grandparents to be the only ones purchasing the boxes, but I was surprised by the fact that a number of people were actually buying these boxes and donating them to local children!

If you would like to connect with Naomi to learn more about the Summer Adventures in a Box, find her on Instagram here and let’s help support this amazing high-school entrepreneur student with a love for educating children!

Thank you, Naomi, for sharing your passion for inspiring young children with us, and participating in our Small Business Sunday series!
