With the second wave of COVID-19 upon us, I have decided to bring back Small Business Sundays! Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and we need to support them however we can.
Epoxy Dad is run by husband and wife duo, Clint and Allison. Allison makes all of the jewelry, alphabet sets, I Spy coasters, some bookmarks, and coasters. She will even occasionally pick the colours and pour crib boards. Allison also handles all the social media, website, and she is probably who you are messaging with and who is taking your order.
Let Epoxy Dad know if they can help you create a unique item as a gift, or for yourself. They have close to 400 colour pigments (they are always ordering more!) and so many sparkles/glitter – they are sure to make something you love, and that is truly one of a kind.
What is Unique About Your Business or What Made You Choose This Type of Business?
Creating beautiful epoxy projects had been a hobby of Clint’s for years. It started with crib boards and small furniture. Later, our daughter was obsessed with dragons, and so Clint had bought all the products and tools to make her a ‘dragon egg’. I’ll admit, it was okay, but man did she love it. Since we had all the tools, he started making hand turned epoxy pens, and also started pouring his own pen blanks too. Clint learned how to stabilize and dye wood and had invested in pressure pots and vacuum chambers to do so. He was encouraged by family and friends to share his passion with others, so he started Epoxy Dad. It is definitely a labour of love.
We have pre-made creations for sale, but also accept custom orders. You can now also find some of our products at Whimsical Vintage Creations in Stony Plain, and we have some other places soon to be added.
What is Your Favourite Small Business (Aside From Your Own)?
Melody’s Magnets! Melody is a stay at home mom who runs a dayhome and finds time to create beautiful and FUNCTIONAL magnets and magnet boards.
If You Had One Piece of Advice to Someone Just Starting Out, What Would It Be?
Just go for it! Pick something that you love and are passionate about. Have confidence, realize there will always be competition, let that be a driving factor and stay unique. Just enjoy what you do!
What Are Your Long-Term Business Goals?
Long-term goals, to continue to share our passion and be creative. We both work full time, so fitting this business in when we can, around our family, is a joy. The kids even love getting involved and picking colours!
What Is Your Funniest/Weirdest/Most Memorable Experience With A Customer or Client?
The most memorable has got to be the look on people’s faces when they pick up their orders, particularly the crib boards. The compliments that Clint receives, people stating that the boards are even more beautiful than expected, really warms his heart. Also, how appreciative people are, it really is amazing!
Thank you, Allison and Clint, for taking time to participate in Small Business Sunday!
